ABIGAIL WASHBURN and the SPARROW QUARTET is a gathering of banjo player/vocalist Abigail Washburn, our WoodSongs friend Ben Sollee on cello, fiddler Casey Driessen, and banjo virtuoso Béla Fleck. They explore a mixture of old-time, folk, and bluegrass numbers, as well as intriguing original songs. Abigail’s solo work balances her affinity for Chinese culture with a love of traditional American music. It was Abigail that arranged the small group of good friends and bluegrass pros for a mini-tour of China, when the Sparrow Quartet was born. Their self titled full length debut CD will be released on Nettwerk Records. They will be the sole artists on this Special Event Broadcast of WoodSongs. http://www.abigailwashburn.com/

OVER THE RHINE- SPECIAL EVENT - returns to the WoodSongs stage where they will be the sole guest on the show. Based out of Cincinnati, Ohio, Linford Detweiler and Karin Bergquist have been making music for more than 15 years. In fact, Paste Magazine recently listed the duo as one of the 100 Best Living Songwriters. The band’s latest release The Trumpet Child was hailed by many as one of 2007 best releases. It celebrates American music in the most richly imaginative ways as Detweiler and Bergquist’s evocative, earthy songwriting and impassioned delivery are at their finest. http://www.overtherhine.com/

THE BAND OF HEATHENS are roots rock band based out of Austin, Texas. In early 2006, the three principle songwriters were sharing the stage at a small club. Soon they started to collaborate and The Band of Heathens were formed. They quickly started to create a buzz around town due to their legendary live shows. During the 2007’s South By Southwest the band took home an award for “Best New Band.” The band will be performing material from their self-titled debut CD. http://www.bandofheathens.com/
